START HERE
Use your phone’s browser. If a messaging app opens the link inside its own window, choose to open it in Safari.
Select Protanopia, Deuteranopia or Tritanopia if you know your type. Choose Not sure yet if you don’t. Colour names and photo explanations still work. Your preference is saved on this device.
Tap Open camera and allow camera access. You can also use Take photo or Open photo. Keep your phone steady and use even lighting.
In Safari, open Share and choose Add to Home Screen. You’ll have a Hue icon to tap next time. It’s a web app; an App Store download is not required.
COLOUR TOOLS · ON YOUR DEVICE
Tap the image to move the target onto one surface. Hue shows a colour name, symbol and colour code. Speak reads the colour aloud.
“Likely” means the sample needs checking. Move closer or try better lighting.
Select a known profile, turn on Assist, and adjust the strength. The effect changes some colour differences; names always describe the original image.
Assistance is experimental. It does not restore colour vision.
Open Compare. Point at the first colour and save A, then save B. Hue says whether the samples are the same, similar or different, and whether they may look alike with your profile.
Before / After shows an approximate colour-vision simulation without and with assistance. Switch between full-width views to notice smaller changes.
This helps others visualise an estimate, not someone’s exact experience.
UNDERSTAND · ONE PHOTO PER TAP
Take a new photo or select one from your phone. Choose Everyday objects, Fruit & vegetable clues or Read packaging.
This sends one photo to OpenAI. Hue can describe visible objects, their colours, approximate locations and clues that may matter. It also tells you what is uncertain.
Read the object cards or tap Read the scene aloud. The Red and Green buttons filter the object list and add approximate striped highlights to the photo. Filtering does not send it again.
Tell me more captures and sends one current frame immediately when tapped. The live camera pauses while you read the explanation.

Open the link directly in Safari. Allow camera access in the website’s settings, then try again. If Hue says the camera is connected but video is paused, tap Start live video. You can use Take photo or Open photo while live camera access is unavailable.
No. Use this public Hue link in your browser. Visitors don’t need a ChatGPT subscription or an API key. The app owner covers the AI requests. A shared daily allowance applies; if it is reached, colour tools remain available.
Colour tools process images on your device. Only an explicit AI analysis tap sends a photo to OpenAI. Hue does not save photos or explanations in its database. Use Clear photo to remove the current AI photo and result, or reload to clear page memory. OpenAI’s API data policies also apply to submitted photos.
Use Hue for observations that you can verify. It can miss objects or misread colours and text. Colour alone cannot confirm food freshness or safety. Check medicine against original packaging with a pharmacist. A photographed traffic signal may already have changed; do not use Hue to decide when to cross or drive.
Not currently. The profiles and simulations are not diagnostic tests. Choose Not sure yet to use the app without a diagnosis.

Hue was inspired by Elias Aw, who wanted to help his colour-blind grand uncle navigate the world better.
